By Surihe Gaomas WINDHOEK The Chief of the Bondelswarts Traditional Authority, Captain Anna Christiaans, has been admitted to the Keetmanshoop Hospital for two days of medical observation. The Chief went missing on Friday afternoon and was only found on Saturday afternoon in a riverbed on the road leading to LÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚¼deritz. Police in the southern town, together with the community, conducted a search together and found the heat-exhausted chief lying under a bridge along the main road. It is not yet clear how she ended up there, but it is suspected that she might have unknowingly started wandering on foot. Special Adviser to the Bondelwarts, Captain Josef Christiaans, yesterday informed New Era that the 68-year-old chief was healthy and was only suffering from the effects of prolonged heat exposure, considering that she went missing from about 17h00 on Friday. “She is burnt a lot by the sun, and her skin is red as a result. She also has blisters on her feet from walking on the main road when she disappeared that day,” said Christiaans. According to him, the chief was in town around 13h00 that Friday, and the last time she was seen in town was around 17h00. Both the Karas Regional Governor, David Boois, and Josef Christiaans will be in touch with the doctor about her exact medical condition today. It is known that the chief is also suffering from loss of memory and has been on medication. When found by the police, the chief could not recall how she got there or with whom she was at the time of her disappearance. Karas Regional Commander of the Namibian Police, Josephat Abas, said they found the chief by following up on leads as to where she was seen the last time. “We found her some 10 kilometres from Keetmanshoop on the way to LÃÆ’Æ‘Æ‘ÃÆ”šÃ‚¼deritz, under a bridge, lying on her back. She looked very tired as she had not eaten or drunk water for many hours,” explained Abas when contacted by New Era yesterday. Chief Anna Christians has been head of the Bondelswarts Traditional Authority for the past 29 years and will be commemorating her 30th anniversary of chieftainship on May 20 this year.
