Windhoek
A new system whereby producers sign one delivery agreement and not two, as per the current method, has been announced by Meatco.
This is due to the N$2.50 contract premium that will only be paid to producers at the end of the contract period once Meatco’s Livestock Procurement department has verified the fulfillment of the delivery agreements for the applicable period.
As a result, Meatco Owned Cattle (MOC) producers will not receive a contract premium on the day of slaughter. Accordingly Meatco producers who want to slaughter MOC animals are urged to sign and fulfill delivery agreements to receive the N$2.50 contract premiums.
The first contract period for 2017 extends from January 1 to March 31, 2017. Producers are advised to sign agreements in November 2016 to ensure slaughter space for this period.
Contract premium
Every October Meatco announces the contract premium for the coming year. Producers are therefore notified that the contract premium for 2017 will remain N$2.50 per kg.
Producers are encouraged to sign contracts with Meatco for delivery for the coming year 2017. Only producers who sign a contract and deliver at least 90 percent of the contracted cattle will receive the contract premium of N$2.50/kg. Terms and conditions apply.
The delivery contracts can be signed during November 2016 for the following contract periods: January to March 2017; April to June 2017; July to September 2017; October to December 2017. Delivery contracts can be signed at the nearest Meatco livestock procurement office.
