Windhoek
A nine month-old baby boy who allegedly went missing at midnight while sleeping with the mother outside their house was found dead three days later, a few meters away from their house at Ourewound in Oshikoto region.
The baby went missing on April 30 at around midnight and was found in a highly decomposed state on May 3.
Police spokesperson Slogan Matheus earlier said the mother came home drunk and found the house locked by her younger sister and decided to sleep outside. When she woke up at midnight the baby was nowhere to be found. After the baby was reported missing the police were engaged in a search for the baby.
Matheus yesterday told New Era that no suspect(s) has been arrest and police investigations into the case are still ongoing.
He said since the biological mother claimed the baby was ‘stolen’ while she was asleep, the Namibian Police Force opened two cases of kidnapping and murder. He indicated that there were no distinctive marks found on the baby’s body.
Matheus said post mortem results to determine the exact cause of death were still under way as the body was found in a decomposed state.
