Morgan Kashihakumwa, a 32-year-old entrepreneur born in Oranjemund and raised in northern Namibia, has become a beacon of hope for many.
Since launching her business in 2019, she has dedicated herself to supporting her family, and empowering others through her entrepreneurial spirit.
She specialises in selling goat heads – affectionately known as ‘smileys’ – as well as ‘marathon’ chicken and tripe.
Her journey began with a simple yet challenging idea.
“I started with ‘Order with Me,” she recalled.
The early days were tough, as she faced scepticism from potential customers who were reluctant to pay deposits for their orders.
Rather than letting this deter her, she used the little savings she had to create a new venture that would ultimately change her life.
She often found herself at the Elago Abattoir, just a few kilometres outside Windhoek, waiting from 10h00 until 18h00, to buy just 10 goat heads.
“The abattoir had their regular customers, so I had to wait until they got their orders before they could help me.”
However, through hard work and tenacity, she built connections that allowed her to source supplies from Mariental, gradually expanding her reach.
Today, the entrepreneur has established two butcheries – Morgan’s Butchery – in the northern part of Namibia, one in Oshikango and another in Ondangwa.
She employs eight dedicated individuals – seven of them female, proudly delivering her products nationwide.
“I prefer working for myself, instead of waiting for the government to do something for me,” she said.
“With the money I make, I take care of my children and extended family. I pay school fees, and pay rent and salaries as well,” she stated.
Her typical workday begins at 06h00 and often stretches until 22h00, depending on the orders.
Her mantra is clear: “Don’t wait for someone to do things for you”.
She encourages local entrepreneurs to persevere through the ups and downs of business, reminding them that “not every day is the same”.
For those struggling with unemployment, she offers hope: “You can start a business like mine. You can start with a few goat heads,” she said.
