RUNDU – The police in Katima Mulilo are investigating a case of child neglect after a two-week-old baby girl was discovered dumped Friday morning at around 11h00 at the Chefuzwe/New Cowboy turn-off in Katima Mulilo.
The baby is currently admitted at Katima Mulilo state hospital in a stable condition. The suspect is still unknown.
“It is suspected that the mother of a two-week-old female infant dumped her alive in the grass a few metres from the main road,” said police who have so far requested the public’s assistance to locate the mother who ‘heartlessly’ abandoned her child.
Still in Katima Mulilo, the police at the town said they are investigating a case of rape of a minor, a 15-year-old girl who was defiled by two men.
According to a police report, the two suspects pulled the victim from Let Me Try bar in New Cowboy settlement on Friday night at about 23h00 and took her to Lwanyanda where they both raped her after assaulting and threatening to kill her.
Police have since arrested one of the two suspects while the other is still at large.
Meanwhile, Police in Zambezi region are mourning one of their members who was on Saturday struck dead by lightning between 16h00 to 17h00, at Luhonono, Schuckmannsburg in Kabbe North constituency. The deceased was identified as Mukelabai George Nawa. His next of kin were informed.
