WINDHOEK

Mountain bikers from across the country are gearing up for the eagerly awaited Hochland Engen Mountain Bike Marathon to be staged from Hochland Engen in Windhoek, on Friday.

This historic Mountain Biking Marathon is made possible courtesy of Coca-Cola, Bio-Dynamics, Medical Imaging, Nexus, Engen Hochland, Dairenkia Motors and Fred Krenz Structural Consultant.

The involvement of reputable sponsors for the Engen Hochland MTB Marathon is certainly big news for mountain bikers and guarantees continued growth for the sport.

The race has been geared towards mountain biking enthusiasts at all levels – from novices to the experts, the occasional to the frequent, the single rider to tandem riders and from the rider whose interests are the picturesque surroundings to the rider whose sole interest is in the merits of the mountain bike.

Rides vary in degree of difficulty, each offering a different perspective of the beautiful Khomas Hochland area.

Mountain bikers have three trails to choose from, being the 10-km leisure ride for kiddies accompanied by at least one parent, a 25-km fun ride for casual-racers in all age groups above 12 years, and a 50-km marathon race that provides for elite ladies andmen, junior ladies & men, veteran ladies & men, and master men.

Entries commence at the venue from 07:15 on raceday and the ride starts at 08:30 with prize giving at 13:00 at the venue.

Prizes in excess of N$20,000.00 are up for grabs!

The trails comprise of fast and flowing riding along deep and single tracks with some challenging gravel climbs and descents to be mastered inclusive of challenges such as rock & rut, ups & downs, sand traps, sweat, suffering and great fun!!

In view of the above, it is believed that mountain biking marathons are much more than just an event, it is a culture with mountain bikers in partnership with Coca-Cola, Bio-Dynamics, Medical Imaging, Nexus, Engen Hochland, Dairenkia Motors and Fred Krenz Structural Consultant.
