Six participants in the MTC eSIM competition will travel to South Africa tomorrow to witness the highly anticipated Soweto Derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs.
The group comprises Sakaria Johannes, Magdalena Elago, Christian Kauyu, Timoteus Kondjashili, Chane Jane Kloppers and Thikameni Namukwambi, who were officially announced today, along with the lucky draw winner, sports journalist Marco Ndlovu.
The winners won an all-expenses-paid trip after entering the draw linked to MTC’s national campaign encouraging customers to switch to eSIMs.
Participants who made the switch were automatically entered, with the grand prize offering a once-in-a-lifetime football experience.
They will be part of the derby fever, which has already gripped Mzansi ahead of what is regarded as South Africa’s biggest sporting spectacle. Chiefs, one of the country’s most decorated football institutions, will renew their fierce rivalry with Pirates in a sold-out showdown at the iconic FNB Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Supporters from Limpopo to the Western Cape, as well as neighbouring countries such as Lesotho, Eswatini, Zambia and Namibia, are expected to descend on Johannesburg for the historic clash. The rivalry dates to 1970, shortly after the Chiefs’ formation, and remains one of the most celebrated fixtures on the African football calendar.
In 183 previous meetings, Amakhosi have registered 75 victories, including their most recent triumph in May during the Nedbank Cup final in Durban. The Buccaneers have won 49 encounters, while 54 matches have ended in draws.
