MTC Kilimanjaro boxing event postponed

MTC Kilimanjaro boxing event postponed

One of Namibia’s top amateur boxing stables, MTC Kilimanjaro Boxing Club, has announced the postponement of its highly-anticipated boxing event, which was originally scheduled for the end of this month at Oshakati’s Independence Stadium.

The decision came after consultations with telecommunications giant MTC, the stable’s main sponsor, as the original date clashed with other MTC-sponsored events, such as the final of the MTC Maris Cup.

Promoter Joseph Bernhard said it is sad that the event has to be put on ice, but assured fans that they would get a new suitable date soon.

“We regret to inform the public and boxing fans in the north that our event has been pushed back due to scheduling conflicts with our main sponsor. Once we finalise new dates, we will communicate to the public,” the club said.

When asked about the impact of this postponement on the boxers’ preparation and momentum, the club assured that it would not significantly affect them. “We have already informed their respective representatives. Our boxers have been advised to stay active, keep training and remain in shape while we await confirmation of the new date,” he said.

In 2019, MTC and Kilimanjaro penned a three-year deal to financially assist the stable with talent identification and development. After the deal had come to an end, it was again renewed.
