MTC Maris has taken a significant step in expanding mobile money access across Namibia by partnering with one of Africa’s leading distributors of mobile money and digital payment services, Kazang.
The move is set to make financial services easier to reach for people in cities, informal settlements, and even Namibia’s most remote rural areas.
Through the partnership, Maris instantly gains access to Kazang’s nationwide network of more than 5 500 agents. This means Maris services will now be available in many locations, reducing the distance, cost, and inconvenience often faced by customers who need to send money, withdraw cash, or manage their digital wallets.
Kazang is one of Africa’s leading distributors of mobile money and digital payment services, with a well-established agent base. By plugging into this network, Maris is helping remove long-standing barriers that have kept millions of Namibians outside the formal financial system.
MTC Maris executive director, Kayembe Ilunga, described the partnership as a key milestone in the company’s drive towards full financial inclusion.
“Our goal is simple: to make sure every Namibian, no matter where they live or how much they earn, can access essential financial services through a trusted local agent,” Ilunga said. He explained that Kazang’s reach will significantly reduce travel time and costs for customers while maintaining high standards of security and compliance.
“This partnership allows us to offer secure, regulated e-money services that fully meet Anti-Money Laundering requirements and the Bank of Namibia’s regulatory standards,” he added.
The announcement comes at a time of strong momentum for Maris. Since January 2026, the platform has grown to more than 500 000 registered customers, reflecting rising demand for convenient, accessible digital financial solutions.
While the Kazang partnership marks an important expansion milestone, Ilunga stressed that Maris is equally focused on strengthening the foundations behind the scenes.
“As our network grows, the quality of service must grow with it,” he said.
“We are investing heavily in agent training, field support, compliance, and customer-focused solutions to ensure long-term trust and sustainability,” he added. According to Ilunga, the agreement positions Maris to play a central role in building a truly inclusive digital financial ecosystem in Namibia.
“We are creating a system where every household can access digital payments, remittances, and e-money services safely and conveniently – from Katima Mulilo to Opuwo, from busy taxi ranks to the most remote rural communities,” he said.
Moreover, the deal signals MTC Maris’s clear intention to cement its position as a key driver of inclusive digital finance in Namibia, leveraging strong partnerships, scale, and regulatory compliance to reach every corner of the country.
