OMARURU – The MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing & Fitness Academy once again took boxing to the people when they staged an exciting fight during the recently concluded Omaruru Oasis Festival.

The festival attracted a record attendance as people from al walks of life flocked to the festival venue to rub shoulders with some of the stable’s leading professional boxers. The event was attended by mayor Vincent Kahua, the deputy mayor Albertus Naruseb, sports officers in the Erongo Region, traditional leaders and business personalities among others. Boxing Club under the stewardship of former long distance runner Betholdt Karumendu. “We have been all over Namibia and this boxing club here in Omaruru has impressed us the most since they have produced very good boxers over the years. We will work with them to give them and their boxers better exposure, as we see developing other boxing academies as an extension of our mandate.” The MTC Nestor Sunshine Academy also extended their generosity by donating 5 punching bags, 5 pairs of sparing gloves and a weekend coaching clinic to the local boxing club.

The donation was made at the official Omaruru Oasis Festival Gala dinner last Wednesday. In return, Karumendu extended his sincere appreciation towards the MTC Nestor Sunshine Boxing Academy and promised to maximize the boxing equipment. The community of Omaruru urged the academy to host a professional boxing bonanza at their town and humbly requested Tobias to consider their town in future when staging professional boxing fights. “We are very pleased and feel honoured to be invited to the Omaruru Oasis Festival, boxing is the number one and most attractive sport in Namibia and we have no problem taking it to the people when they request us to do likewise,” said Tobias.
