The ninth edition of MTC Windhoek Fashion Week (MTCWFW) concluded on a stylish note, showcasing the best of Namibian and African fashion.
Held at Maerua Mall, the four-day event featured a diverse line-up of 40 designers – from seasoned veterans to newcomers.
Local designers like Moon Goddess Design Studio, Sirenga, and Zuriel by Luis Munana wowed the crowd with their innovative creations. Emerging talents such as King_A_Apparel, Top Score, Fyn Chyn Creations and House of Poulton also made their mark, showcasing the future of Namibian fashion.
The international stage was equally impressive, with designers from Angola, Zambia, South Africa, and Botswana gracing the event. This global representation added a vibrant and international flair to the event.
A highlight of the event was the participation of seven student designers from the College of the Arts (COTA). This platform provided invaluable exposure and learning opportunities for these aspiring designers.
Alvaro Mukoroli, the director of MTCWFW, expressed pride in the event’s success. He emphasized the importance of showcasing Namibian fashion to a global audience and fostering a thriving fashion industry in the country.
“MTC Windhoek Fashion Week is proud to host both local and international media, who will have the chance to spotlight Namibia’s fashion industry to a global audience, highlighting the country’s growing presence on the continental fashion map. This year’s Fashion Week promises a blend of innovation, tradition, and cultural expression, making it a must-see event for fashion enthusiasts, industry insiders, and the general public alike,” he said.
Moreover, the Damara Horokhoes showcsed their dresses. Former Miss Namibia Jameela Uiras was among the Damara women who presented the Horokhoes (dress). The exhibition, entitled ‘Trails of the Damara Horokhoes,’ kickstarted the week’s activities.
