MultiChoice Namibia recently became a member of Team Namibia, in support of the national movement aimed at mobilising Namibian consumers to buy local, as well as driving the promotion of the production of quality local products and services.

Since the launch of the joint venture between MultiChoice (MCN) and Kalahari Holdings nearly a quarter of a century ago, the leading video entertainment provider has built a strong track record of Namibian operations. MCN received its transmission license on December 16, 1991 and subsequently began broadcasting from Windhoek via terrestrial transmission, which soon expanded to 23 transmission sites across the country.

In terms of its national footprint, MultiChoice Namibia currently operates from two offices in Windhoek, as well as branches in Ongwediva and Swakopmund. The network is supported by 13 agents, 115 accredited installer companies and a network of Namibian retailers country-wide.

MNC’s core social investment is making learning resources available to educational institutions. To date, over 300 Namibian schools are beneficiaries of the MultiChoice Resource Centre (MRC) programme through which schools receive a plasma screen and PVR decorder with educational programmes for free.

By virtue of its offering, local content is high on MultiChoice Namibia’s agenda, as the business aims to identify its role in uplifting the local film and television production industries to greater heights to see more Namibian content being showcased on the DStv and GOtv platforms.

Chief executive officer of Team Namibia Roberta da Costa said: “In the spirit of Harambee, Team Namibia members support the country’s national objective of sustained economic growth. We are delighted to continuously grow our membership by welcoming another corporate business on board.”
