WINDHOEK – Agra and Namibian Stud Breeders recently celebrated two highlights in the stud industry and auctioneering business with the Northern Select group of breeders celebrating their twentieth anniversary and the B x B group hosting their first auction.
Both auctions were hosted at the Agra/Bank Windhoek Ring in Windhoek.
The Northern Select group was established in 1994 by a group of breeders from the Grootfontein and Otavi area, and their first combined sale was hosted in November 1994. The group consists of Mecki and Brigitte Schneider of Okabra Brahmans, Gunther and Charlotte Hellinghausen of Kupferberg Brahmans; Ulla van Biljon of Arla Simmentalers, Hagen and Birgit Eggert of Harrobi White Brahmans and Sidney Martin of Promatria/Buschbrunn Simmentalers. They offer their Brahman and Simmentaler stud animals twice a year, at the Northern Select Winter Sale, which takes place in June and at the Northern Select Sale in Grootfontein, which will be on 7 November this year. Their motto “Consistency with Quality” is one of the reasons behind their success, and of course the relationship with Agra stud services who hosted their auctions for the two decades, selling top quality Brahman and Simmentaler animals.
At the Northern Select auction, six Simmentaler bulls were sold for an average price of N$38 333 and a highest price of N$75 000. This was paid by S Victor for a bull of Arla Simmentalers. Forty five Brahman bulls were sold for an average price of N$34 956 and a highest price of N$63 000, paid by AP de Jager for a bull of Hagen Eggert.
Brahman cows with calves sold for excellent prices. The highest price achieved was N$40 000, paid by J Tjirimuje for a cow and calf of Hagen Eggert. Tjirimuje also bought the other two cows with calves from Eggert for N$21 00 and N$14 000 respectively. Fifty Brahman heifers sold for an average of N$12 160.
The B x B Elite auction, which was hosted for the first time is a Braunvieh and Brahman auction of Braunvieh breeder Lourens and Henriette le Grange, and Brahman breeder Claus and Heidi Düvel. At this auction six Braunvieh bulls sold for an average of N$40 667 and a highest price of N$90 000 paid by VNS Nghipondoka. Eight Brahman bulls sold for an average price of N$36 875, with the highest price of N$60 000 paid for two bulls, bought respectively by Nico Pretorius and Fred Redecker.
Seven Braunvieh cows sold for an average price of N$14 071 while the highest price of N$30 000 was paid by Cloudberry Investment. Ten Brahman cows sold for an average price of N$11 100 and a highest price of N$16 000.
