Mumbala impressed with Swapo candidacy nominations in //Karas

Keetmanshoop

All nominated candidates that might end up representing Swapo in the upcoming elections are competent and will do a great job if they are elected as councillors in their respective constituencies.

This is the impression of the Swapo //Karas regional coordinator Matheus Mumbala, who commended and congratulated Swapo members of the region for making very impressive nominations.

He says members have made the right choices and whoever wins, to represent the party in any constituency, will have the potential to deliver.

“The comrades at the grassroots have voted for competent people, a combination of young and old,” he said, adding that they have made him proud by nominating capable people, thus ensuring that if elected as councillors they will be able to do a very good job.

Mumbala added that he has received the final list of the nominated candidates in the region from the Swapo headquarters and nominated candidates will now battle it out for the first spot, to represent their party in the upcoming regional and local authority elections slated for November 27.

Asked if there were cases of friction and infighting between members vying for candidacy in the upcoming regional council and local authority elections, he said the region did not experience it as much as other regions as reported in the media, but he admitted small differences have been observed but underlined that they are mostly personal.

He stressed that members should understand that only one person can be a candidate at a time, saying although everyone wants a position it’s impossible for everyone to get it at the same time.

He called on members who might have fallen out during the election process, due to not meeting requirements, to ensure they meet them the next time and urged them to pay their membership fees.

Mumbala noted that the names of the candidates are still confidential and will only be made available to the public during the district conferences, where the final candidates will be elected.

The first Swapo district conference was held at Lüderitz on Thursday, while Oranjemund, Karasburg West and Keetmanshoop Rural districts will have their elections on Saturday, with Keetmanshoop Urban and Karasburg East set for Sunday.
