By Surihe Gaomas WINDHOEK Cases of brutal murder and rape top the list of crime incidents in the country over the past week, especially in the North. This is evident from the latest crime bulletin issued by the Namibian Police issued yesterday. Violence against women and children is still an issue of concern, and several tragic murders were recorded over the past week. The worst reported crime happened at Okahao where there’s been murder, rape and robbery. Last Wednesday, the decomposed body of a young girl was found at Etunda Village at 16h00. The police identified her as 19-year-old Iria Ndagwedha Absalom who was reported missing the previous day. Several items such as six N$10,00 recharge vouchers, a few items of clothing and N$1ÃÆ’Æ‘ÀÃ…ÃÆ”šÃ‚ 410 in cash were found on the body. She was allegedly robbed of her Nokia cellphone, some of the money and raped before she was murdered. The deceased also had a ‘blue rope’ tied around her neck. Three male suspects aged between 21 and 36 years were arrested and appeared before the Okahao Magistrate’s Court yesterday. On Sunday at about 07h00, 29-year-old Lydia Kuyakwa died at Okakarara after she was “stabbed several times with a knife, burned on the right side and her throat cut by a 30-year-old suspect”. At Mondesa Cemetery in Swakopmund, 22-year-old Collin Michael Fliede was beaten and stabbed after he and his two collegues allegedly broke into a ‘ghetto’ and stole a stove. Fliede succumbed to his injuries at Swakopmund State Hospital and the stove was reportedly recovered. Also at the weekend a newborn baby girl was allegedly murdered with an unknown object, wrapped in a plastic bag and dumped at the rubbish site in the North. The suspect is said to be still at large while police investigations continue. At about 03h00 on Saturday, a 32-year-old woman was arrested at Emono village near Oshakati. She is suspected of bein the biological mother of an infant found dumped in an earth dam. Two rape incidents were reported at Ohangwena and Oshana Regions where a 12-year-old girl and another of 19 years were raped over the weekend. A case of culpabale homocide was recorded on the last day of August when two people died and three others sustained minor injuries after the right tyre of the GRN Toyota Land Cruiser they were travelling in burst and the driver lost control of the vehicle which overturned. The incident took place between 08h00 and 09h00 along the Tallismanus/Gobabis gravel road. The deceased have been identified as 49-year-old Andries Skrywer and 29-year-old Missai Kanoombe. In an illegal act of a hit-and-run case in Oshikoto at Oshifukwa village, 21-year-old Uushiku Fillemon was, according to the police report, ‘bumped to death by a certain vehicle.’ The driver of the vehicle drove off after the incident. The use of a dangerous weapon claimed the life of a man at Drimiopsis near Gobabis on Sunday morning when Moses Skrywer, aged 28, was allegedly stabbed twice in the forehead with an okapi knife. He died on the spot. The 25-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the incident, while police investigations continue. One case of suicide was reported in Okalongo at Ohakapeke Village in the North between Friday and Saturday when 48-year-old Shewuunye Shinyenga allegedly hanged himself with a belt. No suicide note was found at the scene.
