Murder suspect denied bail

Home National Murder suspect denied bail

WINDHOEK – A man who allegedly hacked his girlfriend to death on Saturday was denied bail on Tuesday when he appeared in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court.

Israel Kapepu, 39, attacked his girlfriend Christien Gases, 30, with an axe after a drinking spree on Saturday afternoon. The incident happened at about 16h00 in Orvetoveni township in Otjiwarongo.

Kapepu appeared before Magistrate Helvi Shilemba on a charge of murder and was not asked to plea. He was informed of his legal rights and indicated he would apply for a state-funded lawyer.

His case was remanded to March 31 2015 to allow him to submit a formal bail application, apply for a state funded lawyer and for further police investigation.

Inspector Slogan Matheus from the Police Public Relations Department informed the media on Sunday the two were drinking at Lineka Bar and then went home.

A row erupted when Gases refused to cook a meal and wanted to return to the bar instead. Her boyfriend and father of her three minor children allegedly borrowed an axe from her brother and hit her on her head and back.
