WINDHOEK – Six murders were reported over the weekend according to the latest crime report of the Namibian Police.
In one of the incidents a farm worker at Graswater in the /Karas Region was allegedly stabbed and killed by a fellow worker yesterday over a debt of N$50. The manager of the farm reported to the police at 01h17 that his workers were fighting and when he arrived at the scene he found the deceased in a pool of blood with a knife stuck in his chest. It is also alleged the suspect hit the victim on the head with a stone, which led to the stabbing. The fight was purportedly over an N$50 that the deceased owed the suspect. The victim was taken to the Karasburg State Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries yesterday morning at 05h55. The deceased was identified as Frans ‘Shorty’ Rooi, age unknown. A 31-year-old man was arrested in connection with the murder and police are investigating. A woman was brutally stabbed and killed on Friday at Oshihau, a village in the Onesi constituency between 21h00 and 22h00. It is alleged the suspect stabbed the mother of his 4-year-old boy at least 18 times with a knife all over her body.
The stab wounds were concentrated on her neck, stomach, back, left ear and left arm and the woman was identified as 30-year-old Martha Dishena. According to Deputy Commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi the stabbing was as a result of an alleged argument the deceased and the suspect had over her pregnancy by someone other than the suspect. The savage assault occurred in a mahangu field, not far from the homestead of the mother of the deceased, where the suspect also lived. The 28-year-old suspect was arrested and is expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court today for murder. Also in the //Karas Region 43-year-old Martinus Morkel was stabbed to death at Plakkers Kamp in Karasburg. It is alleged the deceased and the suspect had an argument and the deceased was stabbed once on the right side of the chest and died instantly.
A 41-year-old female was arrested in connection with the murder and is expected to appear in the Karasburg Magistrate’s Court today. In another murder in the //Karas Region 21-year-old Tanya Claassen was stabbed once in the neck with a sharp object and died instantly.
The incident happened at Big Boy Bar in the Ileni location in Tseiblaagte, Keetmanshoop. A 23-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court today. In Rehoboth’s Block B, a 57-year-old suspect allegedly stabbed 51-year-old Gert Claasen with a kitchen knife after a quarrel erupted between them. Claasen was rushed to St Mary’s Hospital where he died while being attended to by medical staff. The suspect fainted during the arrest and is under police guard in the same hospital.
The incident happened on Saturday at about 20h20 at Erf 572. In yet another murder in the Takaramica location in Mariental on Saturday at about 02h01, 18-year-old Hendrico Mario Plaatjies died as a result of a stab wound to the right side of his neck. He was allegedly stabbed by a 19-year-old male with an unknown object and was taken to hospital where he died. The suspect was arrested and will appear in court today.
