WINDHOEK – Local music producer Gift Ranjua Kahupa, 25, is fighting for his life in a local hospital in Windhoek after he was hit by a car on Valentine’s Day in Okahandja over the weekend.
Warrant-Officer Maureen Mbeha from the police public relations unit in the Otjozondjupa Region informed New Era yesterday that Kahupa was in a critical but stable condition.
Kahupa is known in the local music industry as ‘I.R.U.K’ and worked with musicians such as the late Curtis ‘Catty Cat’ Yearwood, D-Jay and Gazza.
Kahupa was also part of the 061 Music Crew.
The incident happened at about 02h05 on Saturday along Fredrick Awaseb Street in the Nau-aib residential area.
Kahupa was allegedly coming from a popular bar with his friends when a black Honda sedan struck him and a female friend from behind.
Kahupa was rushed to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital in Windhoek and was later transferred to Medi-Clinic in Eros suburb on Sunday.
The other victim sustained minor injuries to her right ankle and was treated on the scene by paramedics.
She was identified as Rebecca Khoses, 21.
Marcius Maradona Danster, 25, was arrested in connection with the incident and appeared in the Okahandja Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
He was charged with reckless and negligent driving, failing to render assistance to an injured person and driving without a valid licence.
Danster was denied bail.
