Mwatelulo happy with volleyball’s growth

Mwatelulo happy with volleyball’s growth

The president of the Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF), Tobias Eden Mwatelulo, yesterday praised the quality displayed in the just-concluded MTC Volleyball League.

He expressed optimism about the future, and anticipates greater competition next season.

Reflecting on the season which concluded this past weekend, Mwatelulo highlighted the league’s growth and the quality of play.

The inaugural season saw Revival Volleyball Club being crowned champions in the women’s division, while Namibia Correctional Service Volleyball Club (NCS) Ondangwa secured the men’s title.

Looking back, Mwatelulo expressed satisfaction with the league’s overall progress, including the performance of the players, and the development of volleyball structures.  As a former player in the league himself, he shared his delight with the rising standard of play and increased excitement for the sport countrywide.

He noted that volleyball has gained significant popularity across Namibia, especially since the league secured sponsorship.

“The performance in the league over the last five years has improved, particularly in terms of quality and the players’ hunger to compete,” Mwatelulo stated.

“We’ve also noticed a consistent increase in fans attendance. Whenever we travel to different towns, the venues are packed, which shows how the sport has become one of the most popular in the country.”

Meanwhile, MTC’s Tim Ekandjo commended the NVF leadership for their hard work in launching the league after receiving the sponsorship.

“We recognise and commend the efforts made by the NVF leadership to get us to this point. I also want to remind everyone how this sponsorship came about -it was because of the commitment and passion shown by the players. We need to see this same passion continue into the new season. The fire must keep burning to bring out the very best of Namibian volleyball,” he said.

For their achievements, Revival Volleyball Club and NCS Ondangwa each took home medals and N$40 000. Runners-up Kudos and NDF Raptors earned N$20 000, while third-placed Khomas Nampol club received N$15 000 each.
