Namibian professional boxing referee and judge Fillemon Mweya is preparing for an exciting opportunity to officiate a WBC title fight on 21 December in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. 

He has been officially appointed by the World Boxing Council (WBC) to oversee the main event of the evening, which will feature a thrilling WBC bout between Ilunga Makabu and Wagdy Attia. 

The event, promoted by Ferdinand Luyoyo of Luyoyo Promotions, will take place at the Gymnase Jumele Stade de Martyrs in Kinshasa.

Mweya expressed his enthusiasm about being part of this prestigious event, highlighting the significance of the opportunity: “I am very much excited to be part of the ring officials for the night’s main event. This opportunity comes as a result of hard work and dedication to the sport of boxing.”

He acknowledged the importance of being involved with the WBC, the world’s premier boxing organisation: “As you know, the World Boxing Council (WBC) is the top boxing organisation in the world, and everyone in the boxing community aspires to be part of it.”

The referee is optimistic about his future in the sport, sharing his aspirations for 2025: “I am hoping that next year I will receive even more international appointments, which will allow me to further develop my skills and gain valuable experience.”

Having attended multiple WBC conventions over the years, including those held in Ukraine (Kiev) and Mexico, Mweya emphasised his preparation for the upcoming event: “I have attended many WBC conventions in the past, and these experiences have greatly contributed to my readiness for such a high-profile assignment. I am well prepared for this opportunity,” he concluded.
