WINDHOEK

All roads leads to the Goldbeck farm, home to the new Astra Moto-Cross Race Track, situated approximately100km east of Windhoek on the Gobabis road for the season’s second race under the official title Astra MX- Cup. The race starts tomorrow at 12h00.

With immense input from veteran rider Ronnie Adams, the Goldbeck family has created a racetrack of incomparable quality with the composition of the ground exceptionally favourable while the surface is compactable with no gravel, which is perfect for MX racing.

After last month’s grandiose opening at Gallina, the event organisers anticipate a similarly exciting competition, with the mixed Open/125cc Class expected to take centre stage again.

Rainer Becker triumphed in the Open Class three weeks ago but had to make way for the predominent Tommi Gous (Yamaha) in the much sought after “Wesbank King of the Dirt” event.

Honda rider Becker knows very well that technically he still reigns supreme in this department had it not been for his lack of physical fitness.

Fit again Scottish rider Richard Reid on his Kawasaki will be out to put behind the disappointment of falling on the wayside after a decent ride that saw him cruising to third place in the first heat, before a heavy crash in the second heat put paid to his ambitions of taking his place amongst the winners on podium.

Ronnie Adams (Suzuki) was involved in a mass crash last month – leaving him with fewer points, but the Open Class reigning champion is definite amongst the favourites where the fast improving pair of Tony Viljoen and Jaques du Plessis are expected to give Adams a good run for his money.

Arno Engels remains doubtful after he dislocated his shoulder in last month’s mass crash at Gallina.
