Police in the Oshikoto region have opened a case of rape after a five-year-old girl was allegedly raped by one of her nine-year-old cousins, who is an identical twin.
It is not clear at this stage which of the twins committed the act.
Oshikoto police regional commander, Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku, confirmed that a case of rape was opened against the twins, but no arrest has been made.
The incident took place during the December holiday at the Tsintsabis settlement.
Kalompo-Nashikaku said the children who lived in different towns, met up for a holiday at their grandmother’s house in Elavi village.
They then visited a relative in Tsintsabis for a few days, and the victim, the suspect, and his twin brother were made to sleep in one room.
On 29 December 2024, they all travelled back to Elavi.
That was where the girl told her brother that she had been raped while they were in Tsintsabis.
The brother allegedly informed their grandmother, who then asked the girl to identify the twin who raped her.
The victim cannot identify the alleged perpetrator because they are identical.
