WINDHOEK – Seven companies donated money, blankets and mattresses to the back-to-school campaign, an initiative of the Office of the Prime Minister.

The project aims to assist with ensuring that San and other vulnerable children remain in school despite the socio-economic challenges they face. The donation was made last week in Windhoek.

“The donated funds will be used to assist learners with stationery, school uniforms, toiletries, support to community hostels and other related school needs, ’’ said Nangula Mbako, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Prime Minister. The project was started in 2007.

The Social Security Commission donated N$30 000; the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN), Ohlthaver & List and Nampost each donated N$10 000; the Windhoek Country Club donated N$5 000 while Business Connexion donated 100 blankets and Namib Mills 70 matrasses.

Last year the project looked after school children in the regions of Ohangwena, Kavango, and Zambezi. This year the campaign will benefit school learners in Oshikoto, Kunene and Otjozondjupa regions.
