Committee members of Namibia Fuel and Allied Workers’ Union (NFAWU) and Namibia Security Guard and Watchmen Union (NASGWU) want the immediate reinstatement of David Frans who was unceremoniously ousted as secretary general of NFAWU.

Committee members from other parts of the country on Monday informed New Era that they do not recognise the new executive for NFAWU and NASGWU on grounds that this was done without their knowledge. Last week on Tuesday, the national executive council of Trade Unions Congress of Namibia (TUCNA) -the highest authority of TUCNA – endorsed Kavinda Faustinus as president of NASGWU and Selma Sheetekela as president of NFAWU.

Elvis Muituti was endorsed as vice president of NASGWU and Joshua Shooya as vice president of NAFAWU while Hausiku Andreas will from now on serve as secretary general of NASGWU and Felix Machenje as secretary general of NFAWU.

The committee say they will remain committed to the former secretary general (Frans) vowed that they will not to corporate nor work together with the new leadership as they don’t approve of it.

“We as committee members only knew about this new leadership in the newspapers TUCNA that has been spearheading the process did not inform us on anything. TUCNA does not have the right to interfere with how we run our union because it is us who elected our leader (Frans) and we are the one who have the right to remove him,” stated Andreas Nakanyala the coordinator for NAFAWU at Tal Valley service station in Windhoek.
He said these new executives are not there to steer union members’ concerns and plights but they are only there to sit on union members’ contributions.

“We cannot trust these guys, they were not even introduced to us as we are suppose to work hand in hand with them. How can one work with someone you barely know?” querried Nakanyala who vowed to continue working with Frans who he said used to take their concerns to heart.

Meanwhile another committee member Jonas Kapweya who is also the branch coordinator of Oshakati expressed his dissatisfaction with the executives saying whatever TUCNA shall do, it is their own stories and he shall continue to support the embattled leader.
