A specialised welding training workshop is scheduled to be held in Outapi, in the Omusati region, from 15 -19 December.
The Nakayale Vocational Training Centre is scheduled to host the training. The programme expects to host 20 participants and equip them with basic welding skills to promote welding in the country.
Welding is a cornerstone trade in industrial development, vital for infrastructure, energy projects and manufacturing. As Namibia expands its oil and gas and Green Hydrogen sectors, the need for highly skilled welders has never been greater. This workshop aims to raise awareness of the importance of welding and how it contributes to industrialisation. Hosting these trainings outside Windhoek, such as in Outapi, creates awareness about opportunities and access to information towards expanding welding skills.
This initiative is made possible through the generous support of multiple partners, who are essential if Namibia wants to unlock employment opportunities from a grassroots level. For example, the Nakayale Vocational Training Centre provides the venue at its VTC facility. Other sponsors for the workshop include Post Code Lottery from Germany, German Embassy to Namibia, Intercultural Relations, WeldNAM, Namibia Institute of Mining and Technology (NIMT), as well as GSI Namibia. Christof Lammen, from Intercultural Relations E.V., Germany, said, “We are proud to support this initiative in Outapi. Welding is not just a technical skill; it is a gateway to opportunity and empowerment. By investing in vocational training, we help ensure that Namibia’s workforce is ready to contribute towards the industrialisation of the country.”
