Meanwhile the Swakopmund Bungalows would be turning into the Namibia Annual Music Awards (NAMAS) village hosting nominees the weekend of May 4 and 5 as the event relocates to Swakopmund this year.
The event takes place at the newly-built Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre on May 5 while the venue for the Friday night, May 4 awards, is yet to be confirmed. For the first time in the history of the NAMAS, the event will not be taking place in Windhoek. Executive Chairman of the NAMAS, Tim Ekandjo says the Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre is a massive metres multi-functional facility with ample parking space and it presents the NAMAS with a perfect opportunity to stage a spectacular show. He adds that taking the NAMA’s outside Windhoek gives other towns the opportunity to boost their local economies considering the economic boost any town will receive with everybody flocking there over that weekend. “I would like to thank the management of the Swakopmund Indoor Sports Centre for having contributed immensely to making the venue available and for taking their social responsibility seriously,” appreciates Ekandjo.
After Windhoek has proudly been hosting the NAMAS for the first three years it appropriate for the NAMA’s to relocate to one of Namibia’s many other amazing hotspots. “We have a tendency to throw a few surprises every year and that is how we grow the currency of this brand. This year we also made a decision to celebrate the NAMAS over a full weekend and that is why we have two awards ceremonies over one weekend. People wait in anticipation for the NAMAS for 12 months, and when it eventually comes it is our responsibility to give them nothing but total entertainment,” says Ekandjo.
All nominees will be provided with transport from Windhoek to Swakopmund. “We are looking at more ways to make it as easy for people to travel to and from Swakopmund because we know this is relatively a new experience for all of us. Three to four spo nsored busses will transport people to Swakopmund and back at no charge provided they have a valid NAMAS ticket. We are also in the process of negotiating with the hospitality industry in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay for discounts for travelling guest provided they have a valid NAMAS ticket,” informs Ekandjo.
