Namdeb, through its continuous efforts to empower youth through skills development, on 21 January 2022 donated electronic equipment to the Southern Youth Entrepreneurs (SYE), an affiliate of the National Youth Council (NYC).

The donation which includes five laptops with bags, a Canon printer/copier, an LCD projector, a Canon Powershot camera and a Hisense sound box is valued at an estimated N$42 000.

Nestor Sheimi, the chairperson for the NYC in Oranjemund and Rosh Pinah constituency, received the donation. In his acceptance speech, Sheimi remarked that the donation would assist in empowering the local youth by upskilling and boosting their computer skills.

Namdeb chief operating officer, Dr Jurgen Jacob handed over the equipment and said Namdeb was proud to be able to make such a noble sponsorship to the local youth.

“Charity begins at home, and thus it is important that our local youth possess the necessary computer skills and embrace the digital world,” he noted.

Jacob added that with the announcement of the Namdeb long-term plan that extends the mine to 20 years, Namdeb has prioritised the need to first consider the local youth for the new vacancies as part of their ambitions to support national imperatives on reducing youth unemployment.

Also present at the occasion, the Oranjemund and Rosh Pinah constituency councillor, Lazarus Nangolo, applauded Namdeb for the donation.

“This donation is another testimony of Namdeb’s commitment to support local entities, and for this we are thankful.”

Namdeb continues to support local empowerment entities including the NYC since its inception.

It said this partnership is based on the strong conviction that the destiny of Namibia is closely intertwined with the future of the youth, and the donation demonstrates Namdeb’s commitment to partner for thriving communities to build a better tomorrow.
