Namibia has secured a coveted spot at the upcoming 12th edition of the World Games, scheduled to take place in Chengdu, China from 7 to 17 August 2025.
This achievement follows Namibia’s participation in the Southern African Regional Championships, held in South Africa from 4-6 April. The Namibian team comprised eight archers, and these championships served as a crucial qualifier for the prestigious global archery competition.
Following the intense competition, Elisabeth Taljaard emerged victorious, securing a gold medal in the Compound Women’s challenge.
This outstanding performance guaranteed her a place at the World Games. However, Taljaard’s gold was not the only success for Namibia at the event. Lutz Wahlers and Janko du Plessis also shone, each clinching silver medals in their respective categories.
Jan-Lotz du Toit and De-Villiers Visser contributed to the team’s success by bagging bronze medals. Their achievements, unfortunately, did not secure them individual spots at the World Games.
Speaking yesterday, top archer Taljaard expressed her satisfaction with the team’s overall performance.
“For me, this competition meant a lot.” I knew I was performing well, but I didn’t anticipate this outcome. I am thankful that I remained focused and calm throughout.”
She continued, “Not once did I dwell on the possibility of a bad shot. This competition demonstrated to me that I am capable of competing against some of the best archers in South Africa and, indeed, some of the best in the world. It showed me that through Jesus Christ, anything is possible if I do it for His glory. I am incredibly happy to be able to represent Namibia at the World Games later this year.”
