Namibia and Zimbabwe gear up for showdown

Namibia and Zimbabwe gear up for showdown

The spotlight is shining brightly on today’s Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier showdown in Group J at Orlando Stadium, featuring Namibia’s Brave Warriors taking on Zimbabwe.

Namibia’s roster is bursting with talent, showcasing stars like Deon Hotto, Prinz Tjiueza, Vitapi Ngaruka, Lloydt Kazapua, Kennedy Hamutenya, Betheul Muzeu and Riaan Hanamub.

Coach Collin Benjamin has also summoned Rewaldo Prins, Petrus Kamati and Tjahikika Mbakondja to join the party.

On the Zimbabwean side, there is a bit of a hiccup. Dynamic duo Tino Kadewere and Tawanda Chirewa will be sitting this one out due to pesky calf and thigh injuries, respectively.

But fear not, the return of Khama Billiat, former Mamelodi Sundowns sensation, adds some flavour, as he has come out of international retirement just last month.

Additionally, Warriors captain Marvelous Nakamba is back in action after shaking off his injury woes.

Historically, Namibia is riding high in their rivalry, boasting four victories in the last five encounters.

Zimbabwe’s last taste of triumph against Namibia dates back to 2017 when they snatched a 1-0 victory in an Afcon clash at the National Sports Stadium in Harare.

Benjamin said they must pick up points, as it is a crucial match.

He added that he expects two open matches in terms of scoring.
