Namibia’s martial arts scene has reason to celebrate after Seth Mabuza etched his name into the history books, becoming the first Namibian athlete to participate and win a medal at the prestigious African Taekwondo Union Open Series Zone 6 competition, hosted recently in Maputo, Mozambique.
Mabuza, who competed against some of the finest athletes from across Southern Africa, delivered an impressive performance that saw him rise above strong competition to secure a podium finish.
His success not only highlights his personal dedication and hard work but also represents a landmark moment for Namibian Taekwondo, a sport steadily gaining recognition in the country.
Reflecting on his victory, the young athlete dedicated his medal to the people who have supported him throughout his journey.
“This achievement is not just mine, but for my family, my coaches, and my country.
I hope it inspires other young Namibians to believe that they too can compete internationally and win,” Mabuza said with pride.
The Namibian Taekwondo Federation applauded Mabuza’s historic breakthrough, describing it as a sign of brighter days ahead for the sport.
In a statement, the federation confirmed that concrete steps are being taken to build on this momentum:
“Plans are underway to expand training programmes and provide more opportunities for young athletes across Namibia. Seth’s achievement is proof that our athletes can compete on the continental stage and succeed.”
Sports analysts view this milestone as a turning point for Taekwondo in Namibia, with Mabuza’s medal likely to inspire more youth to take up the discipline.
With increased investment in training, equipment, and international exposure, officials believe Namibia could soon produce a new generation of martial arts champions.
For now, however, all eyes remain on Seth Mabuza, whose triumph in Maputo has not only earned him a medal but also elevated the hopes of a nation eager to see its athletes excel beyond borders.
