Namibia drops 9 places on latest Fifa rankings

Home Sports Namibia drops 9 places on latest Fifa rankings

Windhoek

According to the latest Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) world and continental rankings released yesterday, Namibia dropped nine places from 105th place to 114th in the world.

Namibia also slipped five places on the African rankings, falling from 28 to 33 on the continent. After winning the Cosafa Cup In June Namibia shot up to 105th place in the world and 28th in Africa.

Namibia Football Association Secretary-General, Barry Rukoro was partly surprised by the sharp fall in the world rankings, saying Namibia has so far only lost two matches following the country’s historic Cosafa Cup triumph. He however admitted that other factors could also have come into play during the ratings.

“Slipping nine places is a bit harsh, considering that we have only lost two games, one in the World Cup qualifiers against Niger and one in the CHAN qualifiers against Zambia, so I really think it’s a bit too much. But, we also have to consider other tiny aspects, such as teams that are ranked below us, but did considerably well during the period under review,” Rukoro said.

Algeria is still topping the African rankings, followed by Ivory Coast in 2nd place and Ghana in 3rd place. On the world rankings, Argentina replaced Germany at the top to take over as number one on the world rankings, with Germany now in 2nd position followed by Belgium in 3rd place and Columbia in 4th.
