’Namibia must remain rooted in unity’

’Namibia must remain rooted in unity’

To overcome serious challenges of unemployment, poverty and to attain set national development goals, Namibians from all walks of life must remain united and woven in prayer with hope for a better future.

Speaking at the remembrace day in honour of the country’s Founding President and Father of the Nation Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma at the Heroes Acre on the outskirts of Windhoek on Monday, President Nandi-Ndaitwah said unity is key to overcoming the challenges the country faces, especially unemployment and poverty.

She said Nujoma, whom she affectionately called the “Baobab tree,” left behind a lasting and rich egacy of unity, peace and development, and these are values all Namibians should jeolously guard through unity, dedication and prayer.

“We are the roots, and we pledge to remain loyal to the work of unity and development of each and every Namibian, which he [Nujoma] championed with dedication over the decades. I’m appealing to all Namibian people to make it one of our morning and evening prayers so that we have unity in our country, because only when we are united will we be able to emerge victorious in addressing the challenges we face,” appealed the presdient.

She then referenced the late Nujoma’s famous quote, reiterating his enduring wisdom and love for the people of Namibia.

“A people united, striving to achieve a common good for all members of society, will always emerge victorious,” Nandi-Ndaitwah quoted the late revolutionary statesman.

Among the key challenges, the president pointed to unemployment, stressing that collective unity is crucial in finding solutions to this scourge.

“Very key for us is to address unemployment because once we are employed, we will definitely be able to take care of ourselves individually, collectively, and we will eradicate poverty.

That is exactly what our Founding President stood for…”

The president thanked all Namibians who took part in the national tree-planting event held in Nujoma’s honour, saying the activity symbolises growth and continuity.

She called for the event to become an annual tradition in Nujoma’s remembrance.

“This event is not only to remember our Founding Father but to recommit ourselves to his vision. Let us work together, as he taught us, to build a better Namibia for all,” she said.
