Namibia has been rated as the number one nutritional value producer on the African continent.
In a recent report published by the Mail & Guardian Africa, based on researched data compiled by the World Bank and the UN’s Food and Agricultural Organisation, it was reported that Namibia took top honours.
The researchers came to this conclusion after analysing data from countries that produced the most nutrient-rich food.
The World Bank’s food production index includes only edible crops that contain nutrients, meaning there is no room for teas and coffee, which have no nutritional value.
On this basis the study found that Namibia deserves the number one spot.
Outgoing president of the Namibian Agricultural Union (NAU) Derek Wright applauded Namibian producers on this phenomenal achievement, saying it once again proves Namibian producers’ utmost dedication to high standards of production, thanks to a well-structured agricultural sector, on whose sustainability some 72 percent of Namibians are dependent for their livelihood.
