… Reho trounce Gurus Pool Club

REHOBOTH – All together seven teams recently converged on the capital to establish the long overdue Namibia Pool and Billiards Federation (NPBF).

The purpose of the newly formed federation is to promote and grow the game of pool and billiards as competitive sports in Namibia, while it will also serve as the presiding body for the affiliated 7 teams this year. The federation still hopes to receive new applications from other clubs. Last Saturday saw the NPBF kicking off its NPBF Blackball League activities with an exciting match between Reho Pool Club (RPC) and Gurus Pool Club.

The match was played over 32 single racks, consisting of 4-eight frame quarters. Hosts RPC from Rehoboth, thrashed Windhoek-based Gurus 6-2, 4-4, 7-1 and 7-1, giving them a total of 24-8. The first frame Gurus managed to win for the day was claimed by a woman Annelie Dreyer, showing her male counterparts that men and women can play this game on equal footing. Keith Jacobs from RPC was voted player of the tournament. The score set by RPC was of very high standard, leaving their competitors in the league with the unenviable task to work even harder if they are to match that standard. Other participating teams in the NPBF Blackball League include Young Ones Pool Club (YOPC), Khomas Tornadoes (Windhoek), Desert Inn Pool Club or DIPC (Walvisbay), Celtic Pool Club (Swakopmund) and Okahandja Meatco Pool Club.

Action continues on Saturday with DIPC playing host to the visiting Celtic, while YOPC greets neigbours Khomas Tornadoes. Okahandja Meatco have a by.
