Dr Joel Hinaunye Eita received his PhD degree in Economics having complied with the requirements for the Philosophiae Doctor in Economics, at the graduation ceremony of the University of Pretoria recently where he had been pursuing his studies since 2004.

In his thesis titled, Estimating the equilibrium real exchange rate and misalignment for Namibia, he estimated the equilibrium real exchange rates and the resulting real exchange rate misalignment for Namibia.

He then investigated the impact of real exchange rate misalignment on the economic performance and competitiveness of Namibia.

The equilibrium real exchange rate and resulting real exchange rate misalignments were estimated using theoretical models and the application of time series econometric techniques such as Johansen full information maximum likelihood and vector auto regression.

Dr Hinaunye Eita was born in May 1975 at Omakuku-Nakayale in Northern Namibia.

He matriculated at David Sheehama Senior Secondary School in 1994. He obtained a B.Com in accountancy, economics and management science at the University of Namibia in 1997.

He also obtained a Bachelor of Commerce Honours degree in economics in 1998, and M.Com in Economics from the University of Cape Town in 2000. He was previously employed as a Researcher at the Namibian Economic Policy Research Unit. Formerly, he was also Chief Economist at the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and served as an Economic Researcher at the University of Namibia.
