By Carlos Kambaekwa WINDHOEK Namibia’s bantamweight boxer Paulus “the Rock” Ambuda and his stable mate Jatoorora “the Sting” Tjingaveta, will be amongst the under cards for the eagerly-anticipated South African Heavyweight 10-round eliminator between Basil Ray and Bull Murava at the Imperal Palace, Kempton Park near Johannesburg on the 29th of this month. The 26-year old Ambuda returns to the ring after a lengthy absence of almost a year to face Jackson Chauke from South Africa, while Tjingaveta climbs in the ring for a confrontation with another South African boxer in the person of Wandile Mseleku in a four-round Lightweight bout. Ambuda’s last competitive fight was against fellow Namibian Petenene Helleo at the Ongwediva Trade Fair Centre near Oshakati last November. He won the fight on points and has not fought ever since. Ambuda boasts an unbeaten record of three out of three fights in the paid ranks since turning professional last year. Tjingaveta is a veteran of 9 fights under his belt with eight wins and one defeat but the Sting quickly retracted that loss when he easily saw off Peter Malakia in a rematch – a month after losing to Malakia at the mining town of Oranjemund on the 20th of February 2007. His opponent Mseleku, is a rookie in the real terms of boxing as the South African only boasts a patchy record of 3 wins and 2defeats as a professional boxer. Chauke has an unimpressive record too with three losses, one win and one draw from five bouts in the paid ranks. The hard-hitting 24-year old Tjingaveta made short work of Lebo Mboniswa in his last fight at the Windhoek Country Club last month – dispatching the South African on points in a one sided 6-round bout. Well-known local boxing promoter and trainer Nestor Tobias says his charges have been hard at training and are raring to go. “Obviously, Paulus is a bit rusty but I’m not concern at all and believe in his ability, after all, both boxers know very well what these kind of bouts hold in store for their future. They need to keep on winning in order to build up a good record that can put them on course for the bigger stage.” Tobias adds that the primary aim is to sharpen his boxers for a bite at the World title in their respective divisions. “The ball is in their court now and for us to produce world champions we need to expose these guys to the rough rigours of world boxing while building their confidence gradually,” he said. Tobias thanked Telecom Namibia for its unwavering financial assistance and also extended a word of gratitude towards Air Namibia for sponsoring the boxers’ return air tickets to Johannesburg. The boxers and their trainer leave for Johannesburg on Sunday to acclimatize before they test their strength against their South African counterparts next Tuesday. The bouts are co-promoted by South Africans boxing gurus Dingaan “the Rose of Soweto” Thobela and Jeff Ellis.
