Windhoek

The Namibian senior cricket team continued their great run of form against Hong Kong on day two of the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Intercontinental Cup at the Wanderers sports ground in Windhoek on Monday.

After a dreadful start the hosts pulled themselves back in superb fashion, enjoying a slight advantage over their Asian opponents in the two-nations four-dayer.

Carrying on with their positive score of 268/6 the previous day, the hosts’ batsmen crumbled against top-class bowling by the visitors – restricting the hosts to another four runs before bowling them out for 272.

In response, a fired-up Namibian bowling attack was able to make early inroads, restricting Hong Kong to two wickets down without a run and it did not get any better for the visitors, who lost wickets at regular intervals.

At 135/8, Namibia looked to be in total control of proceedings until Tanwir Afzal and Ehsan Nawaz teamed up to save the visitors from the trenches. Afzal put on a hard fought 52 and Nawaz on 27* took the team to 202/9, managing to keep them in contention.

The Intercontinental Cup is the ICC four-day, first class competition for the leading Associate and Affiliate members.in action for Namibia.
