A 50-year-old Namibian man was arrested in India last week Tuesday after he allegedly arrived from New Delhi with 20 kilogrammes of ephedrine (tik) in Bengaluru.
An online Indian newspaper, The Hindu, reports that the Namibian was apprehended by detectives of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) at Kempegowda International Airport. The suspect was en route to Johannesburg, South Africa.
Ephedrine, commonly known as tik, is a highly addictive stimulant and banned substance. According to the Indian newspaper the drug is locally used for rave parties at the town.
The newspaper further reports that the alleged drug mule, who disembarked from a flight that arrived in Bengaluru from New Delhi, allegedly concealed the drugs in packets layered with carbon paper in an attempt to avoid detection.
No details of the man’s identity were published.
The Head of the Drug Law Enforcement Division of the Namibian Police, Deputy Commissioner Hermie van Zyl, said yesterday that they are aware of the arrest but that no further details were available.
