Namibian youth advocacy makes waves in UK

Angela Nguvitjita Hangero from Namibia is making waves in the United Kingdom (UK) as a passionate advocate for women’s and girls’ rights.

Hangero (15) has been a dynamic member of the UK Youth Parliament, serving as a steadfast voice for young people, particularly focused on ending violence against women and children.

Her dedication and leadership are driving change, and inspiring others to take action for a better and more equitable future.

“As a proud daughter of Namibia, the Land of the Brave, I remain deeply connected to my roots. My passion for advocacy serves as an inspiration to young Namibians, proving that age is no barrier to making a difference on a global stage,” she stated.

Hangero recently had the honour of speaking at the House of Commons on period dignity, highlighting her commitment to ensuring access to menstrual health products and breaking the stigma surrounding menstruation.

“Currently, I am developing a campaign focused on women’s and girls’ rights, further demonstrating my dedication to creating a more just and equitable society. My work reflects the values of leadership, empowerment and community service – qualities that make me a voice for change,” she shared.

Her growing influence in the UK underscores the importance of youth leadership in shaping policies that protect and uplift vulnerable communities. Hangero’s work is a testament to the strength and resilience of Namibian youth.

Her contributions continue to resonate in the UK and beyond. She took the opportunity to extend her heartfelt congratulations to Namibia’s first female President.

“As Namibia takes this bold step forward, I am inspired by this milestone in our nation’s history. President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah’s leadership is a symbol of hope for young Namibian girls like me, proving that women can lead and shape the future of our great nation,” she expressed.

She hopes the presidency will bring greater protection for women and children, ensuring that Namibia remains a place where every girl and woman feels safe, empowered and heard.
