The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) 2025 annual sports games officially started at Otjiwarongo’s Paresis Sports Stadium with athletics on Monday.
Police chief Joseph Shikongo officially launched the 28th edition of the championships with a roll call of the 14 regional police teams at the Paresis Sports Stadium.
He said the annual sport games are part of the police force’s fitness programme, as the force needs to combat crime with “mentally and physically fit, disciplined members.
“There are no winners and losers here. Let us conduct this year’s championship in a peaceful, professional and disciplined manner with no cheating,” he stated.
Shikongo added that 1 617 participants are present to compete in short and long-distance athletics, football, netball, volleyball, rugby, playing pool and chess.
Chairperson of the NamPol Sports Council Commissioner Ferdinand Nangolo called on the sport officers and coaches to always organise their teams and start the games on time.
“We should also cheer and win together, as the only purpose we are here is physical fitness,” he said.
Winners of the games in each category will receive medals and trophies at the end of the tournament on Saturday.
The 2024 NamPol annual sports games were held at Keetmanshoop in the //Kharas region.
