Nampol maintain impressive run

Nampol maintain impressive run

In-form Khomas Nampol continued their impressive start to the Premier League season on Friday, defeating FC Ongos at Independence Stadium in the capital.

The 1-0 victory keeps them atop the table with 10 points after winning three out of their four matches. Mighty Gunners follow closely in second place with the same number of points after four games, with only goal difference separating the two teams.

Khomas Nampol’s gaffer Fortune Eichab expressed his satisfaction with the results on Friday night, while adding that the win from the previous weekend had boosted their confidence ahead of the crucial tie against FC Ongos. “We had a feeling of winning the match against Ongos because we were coming off a win last week, and that gave my players confidence,” he said. With them (Ongos) coming in from a defeat, it played a huge role in the results tonight.”  Eichab further praised his team’s performance, saying there is unity in camp “I’m happy with the way my players have been performing since the beginning of the season. We’ve shown growth, and the players have understood the importance of staying consistent. Overall, I attribute our impressive start to teamwork; we are united as a team,” he added.

Meanwhile, FC Ongos’ head coach Mervin Mbakera was disappointed with the result, acknowledging crucial mistakes that led to the loss.

“Not the result we wanted tonight,” he said. “We had potential chances, but we failed to convert. We had a plan to challenge for the title, and by losing points, it became difficult. I trust and believe we will bounce back strong,” he said.

In other matches elsewhere on Saturday, Rundu- based Julinho Sporting fell short with a 0-1 loss to Young African. Cuca Tops held reigning champions African Stars to a 1-1 draw at home. Newly-promoted Blue Boys suffered their first defeat, going down 1-3 to Okahandja United. Unam was held to a goalless draw by KK Palace.

Khomasdal outfit Civics and Chula Chula drew 1-1 in another top-flight match. Otjiwarongo-based team Mighty Gunners collected maximum points on the road with a 2-1 victory over Blue Waters. Shandumbala team Tigers recorded their second win of the season with a 2-1 score over Karasburg team Young Brazilians.
