NamPol probes Zambezi ‘ritual killings’

KATIMA MULILO – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Zambezi region has launched an urgent joint investigation into killings targeting children and vulnerable individuals.

This is allegedly for the harvesting of their body parts and internal organs. The body parts are believed to be sold or used in traditional rituals. The investigation was prompted by a viral social media video shared on Monday.

It shows a handcuffed man being interrogated in Silozi by officers suspected to be from the Zambian police. In the footage, the suspect confesses to collaborating with a resident of the Zambezi region to kidnap a child, murder them, and dismember the body.

He claims that the victim’s heart and private parts were placed in a cooler box before being disposed of.

The suspect also names a village in the Zambezi region and associates involved in the trade.

He further alleges that a child’s body was burned after the organs were removed, and that he was paid N$5 000 for his role in the crime.
Katima Mulilo police station commander Charles Mayumbelo confirmed the joint investigations between NamPol and their Zambian counterparts.

He was, however, hesitant to elaborate on the consultations, citing the sensitivity of the case.

“This is a very serious and sensitive issue that we are dealing with right now. We will contact you when we have all the necessary information that we can share with members of the media,” he said. -Nampa
