Spokesperson at the Namibia Bowling Association (NBA) Michelle Crawford described the recently -oncluded national bowling tournament as a resounding success, as the tourney concluded on Saturday. 

The tournament, held at the Eros Bowling Club and various other venues across Windhoek, drew participants from across the country, including a team from Upington, South Africa.

In the men’s fours category, Schalk van Wyk, Julian Viljoen, Gordon Damster and Dave Gibbons emerged victorious, while Marietjie van den Bergh, Susan Venter, Petro Breedt and Petta Anne Basford clinched the title in the ladies’ fours division. 

Waylon Wentzel and Freddie Fouche claimed the top spot in the pairs category for men, and Marietjie van den Bergh and Petro Breedt secured victory in the ladies category. 

Christo Steenkamp claimed the men’s singles title, while Marietjie van den Bergh triumphed in the women’s singles.

Reflecting on the competition after the awards ceremony, Crawford expressed her satisfaction with its proceedings. She noted the tournament’s competitiveness and diversity, underscoring the growing popularity of the sport. “It was an exciting yet challenging tournament,” she remarked. 

“Teams from Tsumeb, the coast, Upington and Windhoek showcased their skills on the greens. Notably, the youngest participant, a nine-year-old boy, highlighted the sport’s burgeoning appeal, emphasising the importance of nurturing talent from a young age. I am eager to witness the NBA’s future developments.”

During the award ceremony, the NBA also introduced its new executive members. 

Anjuleen Viljoen assumes the presidency, succeeding Michael Wells, who served for four years. 

Diana Viljoen assumes the vice presidency, while Crawford assumes roles as the spokesperson and secretary general.Waylon Wentzel and Colin Peake were appointed as treasurers and competition secretary, respectively.
