National futsal team goes into training camp …final squad selection this weekend

National futsal team goes into training camp …final squad selection this weekend

A month before the 2025 Futsal Africa Cup of Nations, Namibia’s national women’s team is scheduled to go into camp as preparations for the tournament, which will take place from 22 to 30 April in Rabat, Morocco, intensify. Namibia has been drawn in Group A, where they will face hosts and tournament favourites Morocco, as well as Cameroon. Providing an update on the team’s preparations, Futsal Namibia’s media representative Greyeno Rusberg said the squad has been undergoing trials over the past two weeks, to build a solid team for this crucial tournament.

“The Namibia Futsal Gladiators have been holding trials for the past two weeks, with the final squad selection set to take place this weekend. The first week was a major adjustment for the players, as they had to adapt to the tactical and fitness demands of futsal. However, we saw significant improvements in the second week,” he said.

A final 15-player squad will be selected at the weekend, after which the team will go into camp on Monday 10 March. The training camp will focus on rigorous fitness and tactical drills, with friendly matches planned as part of the preparations. “The players are using their football experience to build unity and team spirit. We are finalising friendlies before the team departs for Morocco, where they will compete against strong opponents in Group A,” he added.

The Namibia Futsal Gladiators will be making their debut in the competition, marking a significant milestone for women’s futsal in the country. This follows the participation of the Brave 5, Namibia’s men’s futsal team, in their first Futsal Afcon tournament in April 2024, also held in Rabat, Morocco.
