Windhoek
Youth development and participation will be the main focus at the 2016 National Youth Development Seminar that gets underway in Windhoek today.
The opening ceremony will be held at Windhoek Country Club, while parallel sessions will continue over the next two days – September 6 to 7 – at Gateway Conference Centre in Khomasdal.
The three-day event is expected to bring together over 300 national youth delegates and youth development stakeholders, who will participate in facilitated discussions to be officiated by key government ministries, offices and agencies.
According to a media statement by the organisers, government intends to deliver prosperity to the youth through the Harambee Prosperity Plan [HPP] and National Development Plans [NDP], which identifies youth as key contributors, beneficiaries and implementing partners in the development process.
In doing so, government aims to facilitate shared ownership of its development plans by providing space for young people to make material contribution towards policy formulation.
Namibia’s current NYP was adopted by Cabinet in 2006 and is due for review. The third NYP [2016 – 2021] aims to develop a strategic framework to enhance multi-sectoral implementation of youth development programmes.
Local and international experts will moderate and facilitate discussions, including experts from the Commonwealth and United Nations Development Programme.
There is no delegate fee to attend the seminar. Participation is by invitation, however provision has been made for public registration.
Due to the limited availability of seats, registration is done on a first come first served basis. Interested persons can register to attend by writing to mmulunga@nyc.org.na
The seminar is made possible by the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service, in partnership with the Office of the President, the National Youth Council, the National Youth Service and the National Planning Commission.
