Navachab builds SME park in Usakos

USAKOS – Navachab Gold Mine is set to empower entrepreneurs and small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Usakos by constructing a dedicated SME park at the town. This is according to managing director of the mine, George Botshiwe.

Botshiwe revealed this during the rotational annual trade fair held by the towns Usakos, Karibib and Omaruru.  This year’s event took place in Usakos over the weekend.

The SME Park, will be constructed at a cost of N$8 million and is expected to provide essential infrastructure and opportunities for local business owners to practice their trades and expand their operations at the town.

“Architectural designs for the project have been completed, and the tender process is expected to open in October. We also want construction to start before the end of the year,” Botshiwe said during the trade fair.

According to him the initiative is part of Navachab Mine’s broader commitment to supporting local communities and fostering inclusive economic growth.

“We understand the importance of creating opportunities that uplift and inspire communities. This SME Park will provide a platform for entrepreneurs to thrive and contribute to the region’s development,” he said.

He then said a full briefing on the plans of the mine in terms of community development will be shared with Erongo governor, Nathalia /Goagoses in due course.

Navachab also donated N$200 000 the local community.

In addition, the mine is are also constructing a multi-million dollar state of the art medical centre in Karibib.  The mine earlier this year also donated a mortuary to the Otjimbingwe community to improve local healthcare services. In addition to that, Navachab last year also launched the Golden Egg Project, which empowers entrepreneurs from the Karibib district, including Usakos, by providing training, mentorship, and support to help them grow sustainable businesses.

According to Botshiwe all these initiatives reflect the mine’s commitment to inclusive development and community empowerment.

“By investing in each other, we all rise,” he said, urging communities, industries, and entrepreneurs to continue building partnerships that drive long-term growth across the region. edeklerk@nepc.com.na
