Head coach of Navy Netball Club Uahena Kasume is eager to maintain the club’s impressive run in the MTC Netball Namibia Premier League (NNPL) when its returns this weekend at the Patrick Iyambo College in the capital.
Navy are currently on top of the log standings with 12 points after six wins from six matches played. They face newly promoted
Windhoek team Wanderers on Saturday and Fatou on Sunday.
Speaking to this publication yesterday, Kasume said her charges are more than ready after getting a weekend off. She added that the players look good for the upcoming games.
“It’s going to be a tough weekend with the games that we are going to play in the capital. We had a weekend off and we used it to regroup ourselves and look at the future. We are hoping to keep the same momentum in the league by making sure we collect maximum points on Saturday and Sunday,” he said.
They are followed by inaugural champions Namibia Correctional Service (NCS) with 10 points, while Tigers are in third place with 10 points as well.
Meanwhile, NCS players too are looking forward to remaining on course and according to Absalom Mushandja, the team is ready despite most of their players being scattered around various towns.
He, however, said despite that challenge, they are adamant to produce the best results possible.
“Our players aren’t training together at the moment as they are in different towns, so that’s a bit difficult at the moment and we hope that when we go onto the courts over the weekend, we are going to produce results. I am confident that we will keep up with good work on the courts,” he said.
NCS will take on Young Stars at 09h30 on Saturday before they face Rebels at 09h30 on Sunday.
Elite league action will commence on Saturday morning when Eleven Arrows and Northern Fly Ballers clash at 08h00. At 11h00, Afrocat Lions will take on Mighty Gunners while Otjozondjupa Nampol will square off against Fatou NC at 12h30.
Rebels will then face Tigers at 14h00, ahead of a tie between Wanderers and Namibia Navy at 15h30 before the Gunners and Arrows wrap it up for the day, starting at 17h00.
On Sunday, Wanderers will face Young Stars at 08h00 before Northern
Fly Ballers battle it out against Otjozondjupa Nampol at 11h00.
Namibia Navy will then face Fatou at 12h30 before Afrocat Lions face Eleven Arrows in the last match of the weekend at 14h00.
