WINDHOEK – Thirty-nine-year-old Martin Niimbunda, a Namibian Defence Force (NDF) soldier arrested last month by the Serious Crime Unit for the alleged fatal shooting of a man in Greenwell Matongo residential area was on Thursday granted bail in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court.
Magistrate Constancia Olivier granted him bail of N$3 000 though his case continues on 27 September, 2013 in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court.
Niimbunda allegedly shot and killed 25-year-old Simon Natangwe Iipinge last month in Greenwell Matongo after an altercation.
Police information after the incident indicated Iipinge was shot in the chest at close range when the two men were involved in an intense quarrel at the premises of the ‘Kitchener Take Away’ outlet in Greenwell Matongo, which teems with bars and shebeens.
Natangwe died in the Katutura State Hospital where he was taken for medical treatment. Christian Nambahu, of Nambahu and Associates represented the soldier while the State was represented by Peter Kandjumbwa.
