WALVIS BAY – Two members of the  Namibian Defence Force (NDF) last week on Friday appeared in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on a charge of rape.

The 35-year-old Abed Nangolo and 27-year-old Jesaya Nampunda stand accused of kidnapping and raping a 22-year-old woman around 03h00 on Sunday, 3 August at the landmark palm trees just outside Walvis Bay near the traffic circle.

The two appeared before Magistrate Vicky Nicoladis and were not asked to plead but were advised they could apply for legal aid.

They were not granted bail and the case was postponed to 15 September for further police investigations and for them to secure the services of a lawyer.

According to the charge sheet the two were arrested last week on Thursday at the Rooikop army base  outside Walvis Bay. The charge sheet states that Nangolo and Nampunda after attending a private braai  went to a bar in Kuisebmond where they met their victim.

After a few drinks with their victim the accused allegedly forced her into a car and drove off with her  to the palm trees near the traffic circle at Walvis Bay where they took turns to rape her.
