The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) registered 676 390 eligible voters since the commencement of the general registration of voters on 3 June to 29 June.
Preliminary statistics of the GRV made available by ECN chief electoral and referenda officer Petrus Shaama on Thursday show that the latest figures represent an average of 23 515 registered voters per day during 24 – 29 June 2024 and encompassed both domestic locations and Namibian diplomatic missions abroad.
While acknowledging all eligible Namibian citizens who have registered as voters since the first day of voter registration to date, the commission noted with great concern a significant drop in turnout during the week of 24-29 June.
“The commission is, therefore, urging all eligible Namibian citizens who have not registered, to do so as soon as possible because there will be no extension to the registration dates,” Shaama stated.
